Have Concerns About your Energy Bill?

We Do!

Our award winning, BPI certified analysts will come inspect your home and offer valuable advice on saving energy. The home energy assessment is FREE through Appalachian Power’s Home Performance Program. Send us an email to set up an appointment!

We focus on inexpensive and prudent methods of saving homeowners on their power bill. For example, we never suggest a $10,000 replacement of windows before we discuss weatherization, air sealing, efficient methods of heating a home, etc. We will inspect your home and analyze how air is circulating, how heat is escaping, and then implement certain measures to make your home more efficient.  Frequently, this results in a 20% reduction in your heating bill. See below for examples.

DUCT REPAIR

We can do minor repairs or patchwork on ductwork that was not installed according to best practice, or in some cases simply installed incorrectly. Check out additional examples of our work repair ducts on our Bad Duct Work Page

This picture was taken in 2025 in a home serviced by Blue Ridge Heating and Air in 2024. They inspected the ductwork and then installed a $1000 UV air purifier on this air handler. They didn’t tell the customer that 20-30% of their air was leaking out of the air handler before it even reached the ducts. This is a typical occurrence in our line of work. In 5 minutes and with the help of some HVAC tape, we were able to save this customer 20% on their heating bill.

Connections on ductwork frequently leak. You can see into the ducts here. We repair these connections.
An installation job by blue ridge heating an air. This is the air handler connection to ductwork. 20%+ leakage. Taken in 2024 from a job 20 years prior.
Customer complained no air was coming out of their bedroom register. A contractor had disconnected this duct and "forgot" to reconnect it 3 years prior.

AIR SEALING

What is air sealing? In a nutshell: Air Sealing is the process of separating heated and unheated spaces in a home. For instance, sealing holes between the attic/crawlspace and living space.

The attic and crawlspaces are DESIGNED to vent heat and moisture to the outdoors.  The breeze between vents actually creates a low pressure zone that is powerful enough to suck air (and heat!) out of a living space… if the living space is not properly sealed.

Air sealing is a process that normally occurs BEFORE insulation. For instance, in Maryland, very few homes have attic insulation without prior air sealing. Here in the NRV, the vast majority of homes are not air sealed, as it was not required by code.

From the attic, you can see into this living room around this light fixture. Heat is escaping around this fixture,
This giant hole around this vent pipe serves as a chimney, sucking air out of the entire house, year round..
Electric wires that are not properly sealed can create hundreds of points for heat to escape out of interior walls.
Notice how dirty this fiberglass insulation is? Insulation does not stop air flow! What you see is insulation filtering the air (heat) that is escaping through the attic.

We caulk and spray foam these holes as part of the free Home Performance Program.

ADDITIONAL MEASURES

Additional measures include:
  1. The replacement of certain incandescent bulbs with LEDs
  2. Free energy efficient showerheads
  3. Free surge protectors
  4. Exterior wall outlet insulation
  5. Hot water pipe insulation
We also offer suggestions outside the scope of our program, educate people about rebate opportunities, or just provide great conversation. Cold and lonely on a Friday night? Give us a call.

Congratulations to John for winning the “Outstanding Energy Advisor” award at 2025 ceremony with Appalachian Power.

Out of a group of dozens of contractors, John was singled out for going above and beyond the responsibilities of the AEP Home Performance Program in 2025.  A contractor that wins this award is someone who frequently makes suggestions and repairs that go above and beyond the scope of the AEP Home Performance Program. John demonstrated great communication skills with homeowners and frequently went out of his way, spending hours of his free time, educating customers on energy efficiency techniques, helping them receive rebates, troubleshooting on their behalf, etc. AEP customers in 2025 have received over $20,000 of rebate money from insulating walls and attics, smart thermostats, new heat pump installs, etc – money that they did not know they qualified for before signing up!

Our whole team shows this level of dedication to the work that we perform. We thank TRC and AEP for this wonderful recognition.
